 New Heatsink Compound Testing
This will hopefully end up in the XE shop very soon. its a inexpensive ceramic heatsink compound very similar to Arctic Cooling MX-2 or Ceramique. the brand is 'ZP' Attachment:

I have just run some tests to compare it with Arctic Silver 5, which is a metallic silver based compound. AS5 has been the benchmark in heatsink compounds for quite a while. the test was run with a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ and a Thermaltake TMG i1 heatsink. PC is running linux, the testing software used was cpuburn (burnK7) to stress the cpu 100% and LM sensors for temperature monitoring. Attachment:

Results: first reading is idle then time after starting cpuburn. AS5 ZP Idle: 27C 26C 5 sec 35C 35C 10 37C 36C 15 38C 38C 20 39C 38C 25 38C 38C 30 38C 39C 35 39C 39C 1 min 41C 38C 2 min 41C 40C So this stuff appears to be very good. slightly better in fact than AS5. although 1 degree is not a very significant amount, probably even within margins of error. Lets just say its AS good as AS5. We shall run some more tests before it is sold in the store. including tests on a 360, measuring heatsink and die (as close as possible) temperatures.

That's called shintzu or something similar is it not? And it's supposedly the best I think. I would select yes' but it comes up with 'this is an invalid form'

 Re: New Heatsink Compound Testing
i would like to point out that as5 does claim that you need X amount of cycles before it is at is prime, so you may need to take that into account too - i can't remember the exact heat/cool cycles, but it is in their literature

 Re: New Heatsink Compound Testing
Ah yes, I forgot to mention it had been curing in my pc for over a year. (my pc gets a lot of use)
but I do think its worth further testing, different amounts of compound etc.

 Re: New Heatsink Compound Testing
The testing phase can considered to be over I guess we shipped out about 300 free samples of the stuff to people who ordered products from the store with a great success.
So far not a single complaint in fact we got a lot of good feedback from big repair companies who waste lots of money on MX-2 each month who now want to swap to our stuff. We also got new stock now so I am going to add it to the store finally on the weekend at a starting price of 1.59 $US.
Cheers, Wilhelm

 Re: New Heatsink Compound Testing
i own a whole case of these syringes. and they can be mixed with flux (SMALL AMOUNT!!!!) to ensure stability and temperature decreases

 Re: New Heatsink Compound Testing
That is a bad idea. - covers the solder in oil and ceramic crap, which basically counteracts the flux - won't help heat transfer as most of the flux will evaporate before you start to reflow, so you will just be left with the residue on the solder balls..

 Re: New Heatsink Compound Testing
Is this stuff supposed to be so viscous? Word of caution.. If you are used to using a thick thermal compound do NOT press on these syringe's anywhere NEAR as had as you would a thick compound.. this stuff is very thin... Or at least the ones I got were... Do I have a bad batch or is this just what this stuff is like?
